About

At Five Loaves Cafe, we go to great lengths to create a healthy, sustainable and more responsible menu and restaurant for our customers. Every day, we are partnering with local purveyors and makers of food, wine and beer. We also work with local farms to provide fresh vegetables and only serve antibiotic-free chicken and turkey raised in the Carolinas.

Additionally, we serve only hormone-free and pasture-raised beef. We build our restaurants with sustainable materials and use ecologically sound building practices. Even our take out food and drink containers are biodegradable and made from recycled materials -- every detail matters. We strive to be good neighbors and a positive presence in the community. We are very proud of our food, service and the experience we extend to our customers and we hope you enjoy our efforts. Thank you for your continued patronage and support.

Five Loaves Cafe and its sister restaurants, Sesame Burgers and Beer, were founded by owners Casey Glowacki and Joe Fischbein.

Casey Glowacki

Partner / Owner

In 2003, Casey Glowacki stood on the corner of Cannon and Coming Streets, in front of what is now known as Five Loaves Cafe, and asked passersby to try his soup. Since that time, Casey's vision and enthusiasm (not to mention his fierce skills as a chef!) have grown that little restaurant into the GlowFisch group, a local chain of health-conscious yet accessible dining establishments for the greater Charleston community. Casey trained at the New England Culinary Institute where he learned traditional concepts; he's now known for his creative twists on old favorites. Casey is passionate about serving others well--from his customers to his employees to his community, being involved with numerous charities in the area. Visit Five Loaves and you'll never know where you might find Casey, in the front of the house, back in the kitchen making your dish, or dreaming up new menu items for your next visit!

Joe Fischbein

Partner / Owner

When Joe Fischbein jumped on board with Casey In 2004, during the beginning stages of Five Loaves Cafe, he knew this concept would grow to be a local favorite. Born and raised in Charleston, Joe really understands and loves the community. As co-owner and operating as the CFO, Joe is the guy who keeps things balanced at the GlowFisch group. He oversees the vision and growth of the company, while handling any service concerns that arise. The clock that keeps things ticking, Joe manages the internal processes to keep moving forward to best serve GlowFisch Hospitality.

Jason Ulak

Corporate Chef

Before heading up GlowFisch, Jason attended CIA (the culinary school one) ;). After crossing paths with Joe and Casey at other local Charleston restaurants, his amazing talents stayed in the GlowFisch's mind. With extensive kitchen knowledge and passion, Jason's chef skills really pack a punch. His love of what he calls, "the greatest rock band ever" Kiss, is constantly sneaking into his daily teachings as well as his ringtones. Jason takes pride in his extensive cookbook collection which shows his well-rounded knowledge of food and trends.

Lauren Boyce

Five Loaves Cafe - Managing Director

Lauren's hospitality and warm spirit make you feel right at home at Five Loaves Cafe. She takes care of our customers and anything to do with front of house operations at FLC whether they have praise to offer or a concern to register. You won't find her in the kitchen, but for any of your other needs, she's your girl! Lauren grew her love for great customer service while studying hospitality and hotel management at the College of Charleston, and has been with the company since she was student there.

Ruthie Harman

Managing Partner - Summerville

Ruthie has been with the company since "almost" the beginning. Starting during her early days of waiting tables when there was just one Five Loaves, Ruthie has been a driving force of keeping us organized, creating a great team under her, always staying positive and making sure all our I's are dotted and T’s are crossed. Her experience ranges from working in a finance company to being part of a large national restaurant group. Her life's path and hard work have made it easy for Joe and Casey to make her the first managing partner of hopefully many to come.

Stephen Harman

Managing Partner - Summerville

Standing right by her side and bringing excellence to the table as a chef, Ruthie and Stephen make the perfect team! His dedication to the trade has brought him to the level he's at now. Stephen’s experience includes holding many chef jobs, including a chef/instructor in a boutique cooking school, to working as a chef in a prominent Chicago eatery. Stephen seems to never run out of energy or enthusiasm, and comes from the "old school" where he believes in creating a professional kitchen that’s focus always comes back to the food. He and Ruthie, together with their three small children, have successfully put the newest Five Loaves Cafe in Summerville on the map.

Marian Fuller

Corporate Pastry Chef

Join Marian in the kitchen and you’re likely to find her with a whisk in one hand and the phone in the other, as she works with one of the restaurant managers to dream up another delicious delicacy for the menu. A self-taught pastry chef, Marian enjoys experimenting to perfect gluten-free, vegan, and other triple-layer, sweet tooth busting, dreamy desserts just for you!

Debbie

We still can't find the “just right" title for her. Human resources director, corporate administrator, office assistant...maybe we should just call her "Mama." Debbie works behind the scenes to keep things happening...including getting our employees their paychecks! She doesn't always get the credit she deserves, but she's the nuts and bolts that hold the GlowFisch group together.
